First Time Ever!! Online Spending Exceeds $1 Billion... IN ONE DAY!!!!!!!!
Hello - Chris here... I am very aware that creating a web business - at times - can be frustrating. But then again - lets be honest here - creating ANY business - on or offline - has it's struggles at first. But I thought you may take comfort in the fact - that creating a web business is CERTAINLY the correct business to be looking at as we nudge closer to 2011. Why do I say this? Let me tell you.... New data from comScore is saying that Cyber Monday* has been the heaviest online spending day in history. Get this - a record-breaking $1.028 billion was spent ONLINE - in just 24 hours. That's a whopping 16% jump in spending when compared against the same day last year. The figure also represents the first time single-day online spending has exceeded the $1 billion threshold. Wow!!!
ComScore predicts that there will be even more billion-dollar online spending days before the online holiday shopping season is over. Cyber Monday this year (29th November 2010) - there were 4% more online shoppers (9 million) spending on average 10% more per transaction ($60.05), altogether accounting for a 6% bump in total transactions (17.1 million). While this is good news for online retailers, employers might have experienced a loss in worker productivity on Monday as nearly half of all dollars spent on online purchases were made from work computers! All in all -- this holiday season is proving to be a big year for online retailers -- they also enjoyed a fruitful Black Friday, seeing an overall 15.9% growth in sales from last year. Just further proof (as if we needed it) - that a web business is certainly the business to be looking at. * in case you are unaware of the term Cyber Monday - Cyber Monday is an expression given to the Monday after Thanksgiving. The Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday in America. Black Friday is a day of HUGE sales at most stores in the US. A few years ago - Cyber Monday began - continuing this theme - but only online.
