If I had to start all over again.....
by Chris Farrell
Hello !
I have thought long and hard whether to write this -- but I have decided to. I would like to share with you - something that I believe is not only the quickest way to create a good REGULAR income online - but also one of the more FUN. I always talk about building a list interested in a particular niche - developing a relationship with your subscriber - before marketing related products. And please let me add I CERTAINLY still stand by this. In fact - I am discovering this method of ethical, list focused, relationship based marketing, is getting stronger and stronger (helped by the power of Social Media - such as Facebook). Which sort of brings me on to what I want to share with you here... If I had to start all over again tomorrow - if I lost my list somehow and Google decided to wipe any record of Chris Farrell from it's database (!) here is what I would do.... Whereas list building is undoubtedly great - I do believe - now - here in 2011 - I may do something else FIRST (please let me reiterate I WOULD still build lists - but I may do something else first). One of the best pieces of advice I received when I started was: Get Good At One Thing. Not only was this golden advice - I followed it to the letter. To. The. Letter. I focused on JUST ONE THING at a time - and learned that particular skill WELL - before moving on. (forget trying to learn 14 things at once - it simply doesn't work as I'm sure you know and all that will happen if you will get frustrated and end up quitting...) So - I focused - and got good at one thing. And then when I mastered this one thing - I moved on to another thing. As I often say - all skills are learnable (by definition that is what a skill is). At first I learned (as you may know) how to create a website. Then copy. Then I learned Powerpoint. Keywords. SEO. Video Marketing. Wordpress. Traffic generation. And so it went on. But... ...there is a GOLDEN opportunity RIGHT NOW - if you are prepared to spend a few MONTHS (yes, months) studying and Getting Good At One Thing. Do you know what this one thing is?
Social Media Here is something I doubt many here have even thought about. There is a HUGE demand - for Social Media Managers. What does this mean? This means - quite simply - someone (you) who can explain to a local business - how to market using Social Media. You don't need to know about Keywords, about SEO, about html... You do need to understand however - Facebook. Fan Pages, Groups, the LIKE facility, the SHARE facility, News Feeds.... More and more companies are using FACEBOOK as their destination of CHOICE. What that means is - your Facebook Page (or LIKE Page as it's known) is becoming a DESTINATION TO SEND PROSPECTS. Last night I noticed CNN advertising 'join us at facebook.com/cnn' They have shifted AWAY from promoting your own website. And CNN are one of THOUSANDS beginning to do this. The reason is - there is a HUGE added bonus of having a Facebook presence - and that is - there are 750 million+ users of Facebook alone. So INSTANTLY - a new source of eyeballs you can get in front of (and Facebook make it SO easy to get in front of prospects too) Bottom line -- if you can explain clearly - how a local business can use Facebook to get more sales/customers/eyeballs - you will have a job for life. But HOW do you learn these Facebook skills? The easiest (and fastest) way - is to access my UNDERSTANDING FACEBOOK step-by-step video course. In this course - I cover EVERY single element of HOW to master Facebook. This course is free for members of this site - and you can access it by clicking here.
Or just start 'playing around' with Facebook. Go through their HELP section. Check out the Facebook Department here at this site. If you spent the next 4 months putting in some good old fashioned sweat equity and hard work - you would add to your arsenal of skills a very powerful and contemporary skill - that would forever keep you in business. You could also add to this - managing their list. Aweber allow you UNLIMITED campaigns - starting from $19/month. Imagine charging $200/month to a local business - to build them a list of 500 fans on Facebook - (which I can show you how to do in 3 days as I have done this while testing and learning) - put an opt in form on their Facebook page - and manage their autoresponder messages. Are you beginning to see how powerful this could be??? And add to this - once the list appears - it's extremely unlikely your client will stop using your services - as you are looking after their list and social media - and they now need you more than ever. And as soon as they see more people seeing their product/company -- do you think they will tell their friends/business associates about their 'Social Media guy/girl'... ...you bet they would. And don't feel you are too late. Most Social Media 'people' I know do not know half of the above! So put in a bit of effort now - and you will FLY! So - that's all I wanted to share! If I started again - I would begin by mastering Social Media first. Oh and may I also add - not only is it very 2011 - but it is also TERRIFIC FUN!!!

You hit it on the head for sure Chris. Facebook marketing is powerful, growing, and here to stay!
Thanks Chris for this tip about FACEBOOK. I always thought that FACEBOOK was a bit of a fad and would fizzle out like other fads do, but if major corporations like CNN are opting for FACEBOOK, then it must be far more than a temporary fad. I have decided to take FACEBOOK more seriously now and see if I can also tap into this new form of social media to boost my profits and business contacts. Thanks once again Chris. You're a real help. Steve Sheriff
I just realized that Yahoo wiped out all my emails, and contacts from my account....so this topic is very pertinent to my situation right now. I have to ask for all my account #s and passwords, before I can start anything. Till then....back to the basics...
Thank you for being down to earth and being you!
Can't really express how happy I am by reading your article!! You are a person I trust and admire for what you've accomplished so fast, and the fact that you give so much credit to social media, feels me with joy!! I like the idea of being a social media marketer and help people promote their business through facebook or twitter!. Cheers, Vasso
They say that knowledge is power and I believe you hit the nail on the head with this one. What an excellent idea - learn all the social media skills you can and then make a fortune helping local businesses. You are the man!!!
That was not what I was expecting to read given the title of the article. Very impressive Chris - I thought you were going to say you'd have done all the same things to did before.
I was just thinking this morning, as I surfed around the net, that I need to master social media. It is the cutting edge. The internet moves so fast that it is easy to get overwhelmed and it is also easy to waste time with antiquated paradigms and technologies that are no longer relevant to the fast moving stream that is the World Wide Web. If you are going to play this game you better be able to maneuver quickly and make shifts in a timely fashion. It's like navigating the rapids of a class 5 whitewater river. Right now, the shift is social media...period. Make the move, or drown.
