Hi Chris,
I think you know already that I am a historian and the facts you showed in that small clip
really does put things in perspective. Great Britain was the most powerful nation on earth
140 years ago with a population only a seventh of what it is now. At that time GB was the
'Workshop for the World' converting materials from all over the World in to all manner of
products. The only means of travel was Horse-back or Horse Drawn, Steam Trains & Ship.
No cars - Aircraft - Electricity - Aluminum - Plastic - Oil or oil products - Nuclear Power.
Great Britain led the way in communication, laying telegraph cables around the world with
the first succesful trans-Atlantic Cable installed SW Ireland to Eastern Newfoundland in
1866 which allowed instant communication between GB & Western Europe to North America.
That was the start of what we now take for granted.
It is this kind of investigation that sets you apart from the rest plus starting work at
4-30 am for the benefit of all members. All I can say about that is to make sure you get
some time for yourself.
Yours truly Colin, W.
Wow, they are mind boggling statistics, I think it does show that it is something we cannot ignore.
I really like some aspects, like us ordinary people being able to compete with the 'big corporations' or at least use our new social media to wear them down.
I'm thinking about the music industry and record labels and the way they dominated the profession.
Now we can get our own talents online via YouTube, totally bypass them, downloading songs, films and software is a massive problem for big companies (shame.. lol) they have quickly had to adapt. iTunes downloads... just pennies really, for example.
I really have a problem with banks at the moment, I won't go into detail, but I will bless the day that we have an online alternative (hopefully we are getting there, long live paypal).
There is a downside, obviously, especially when things happen so quickly and it can be difficult to moderate everything. There are worries about identity theft, credit card fraud, paedophiles, stalkers. And sometimes it seems like reality TV has overtaken everything!!
But I guess there is always a price to pay, I think we can't stop it anyway, and we would be wise to work with social media and not against it.
I think I am talking too much!!!
Take care
Michelle x
A fad? If it is, it's a great big massive one!
When I consider there is about 63 million people in the UK, times that by 5 and it still would be short of thier 500 million members.
The statistics are almost incomprehensible, it is hard to believe that any other medium could ever reach those staggering numbers.
I just thought if I could get just one PENNY from each one of those I would have £5,000,000. smiiler Derek
